Thomas Forester Phoenix Ware Wartime Concentration Scheme Soup Bowls. 1940s Vintage.

This beautiful and simply designed range by Thomas Forester was produced during the Wartime Concentration Scheme, when UK pottery manufacturers were heavily restricted on production techniques and and pricing. The items I have are marked ‘A’, being produced between 1942-45. Forester’s were in the group 4 band of the scheme, with items restricted to a light/ivory body with clear glaze. This range has a simple trim of thin gold and orange bands on the rims, adding a bit of colour.

The bowls are in lovely condition, especially considering their age, with only light signs of past surface use.
